Notes
- The minimum age for buying tobacco is set by each state and territory. No official source for all eight jurisdictions was read, so no national figure is given.
- Commonwealth law restricts vapes to pharmacies for therapeutic use. A pharmacist may supply a vape of 20 mg/mL nicotine or less without a prescription only to people aged 18 or over, where state or territory law permits. Anyone under 18 needs a prescription, and some state and territory laws do not allow supply to under-18s even with one. Higher-strength vapes need a prescription. This is the TGA guidance for pharmacists; state rules were not checked.
- The TGA states that from 24 July 2026 there is no lawful pathway to buy or import nicotine pouches in Australia: retail sale (including online) is illegal and prescribing or pharmacy supply is no longer allowed. The page was read as an Internet Archive snapshot of 17 July 2026 because the live page could not be reached.
- Smoke-free laws are state and territory laws. No official source covering every jurisdiction was read, so no national value is given.
- Smoke-free rules for public transport are state and territory laws. No official source covering every jurisdiction was read, so no national value is given.
