Travelling with pets to Czechia (2026)
Last reviewed: 30 October 2026
In short: Dogs, cats and ferrets entering the Czech Republic from another EU country need a microchip, an EU pet passport and a rabies vaccination at least 21 days earlier. Entry from outside the EU needs an animal health certificate and, in most cases, a rabies antibody test. No more than five animals may travel in one movement, with an exception for events.
| Rule | What applies |
|---|---|
| Identification and passport or certificateTravelling with a dog, cat or ferret | A pet dog, cat or ferret travelling from another EU country must be identified with an injectable transponder (a transponder implanted before 1 January 2028 without a country code, or a clearly readable tattoo applied before 3 July 2011, is also accepted) and carry an EU pet passport signed by the owner. The passport must be issued in the EU country where the owner lives habitually. [1] |
| Rabies vaccinationTravelling with a dog, cat or ferret | The animal must have received a complete primary course of anti-rabies vaccination at least 21 days before the date of movement, or have been re-vaccinated against rabies, in line with the validity rules in Part 1 of Annex VII to Delegated Regulation (EU) 2020/688. [1] |
| Entry from outside the EU or the usual regionTravelling with a dog, cat or ferret | Travelling in from a non-EU country, the animal must be identified by a transponder (or a tattoo applied before 3 July 2011), have a rabies vaccination given at least 21 days before the move, and carry an animal health certificate (Annex III to Implementing Regulation (EU) 2026/705) issued or endorsed not more than 10 days before entry into the EU. It must also have a valid rabies antibody titration test, unless it comes from a third country on the list in Annex I or II to Implementing Regulation (EU) 2026/636 and meets the conditions of Art. 17. Entry is through a travellers' point of entry designated by the Member State, unless the animal comes from a country on the list in Annex I to Implementing Regulation (EU) 2026/636. [1] |
| Number of animals per travellerTravelling with a dog, cat or ferret | No more than 5 dogs, cats or ferrets may travel in one non-commercial movement, in a single means of transport unless it is public transport. More than 5 are allowed only for a competition, exhibition or sporting event (or training for one), with written proof of registration, and if the animals are over 6 months old. [2] |

Notes
- These are EU-wide rules, read in the Regulation. The Czech State Veterinary Administration site (svscr.cz) shows a bot-challenge page and was not read.
- The detailed titration test requirements (Annex XXI point 1 to Delegated Regulation (EU) 2020/692) and the Implementing Regulation lists were not read.
- No Czech national page on restrictions (for example banned breeds) could be read; the State Veterinary Administration site was not readable. Nothing is assumed.
