Drone laws in Czechia (2026)
Last reviewed: 30 October 2026
In short: The Czech Civil Aviation Authority applies the EU drone rules. Operators of drones of 250 g or more, or with a data-capturing sensor, register for free, and pilots (minimum age 16) pass an online test for subcategories A1 and A3. The maximum height in the open category is 120 m, and liability insurance is compulsory in subcategory A2.

Notes
- The CAA pages read give no separate minimum age for operators; they say only that for an operator under 18 the legal representative acts in administrative procedures.
- CAA overview table: liability insurance is compulsory in subcategory A2 with a limit of CZK 1 million per event, and group insurance is possible. It is also compulsory in the specific category (limits by mass).
- CAA overview table: in subcategory A3 liability insurance is compulsory if the maximum take-off mass is above 4 kg (CZK 1 million per event for 4 to 20 kg inclusive; 0.75 million SDR above 20 kg). The table says the rule does not apply to model-aircraft clubs and their members up to 20 kg, whose own rules govern.
- CAA overview table: no compulsory liability insurance in subcategory A1; in A3 compulsory only above 4 kg maximum take-off mass. A single yes/no value does not fit, so no value is shown for this group.
- The CAA FAQ says the minimum age is 16 in the open and specific categories, with a possible exception for operations within a model-aircraft club or association. The same FAQ adds that the EU rules set no minimum age for class C0 aircraft in subcategory A1.
- The CAA pages read do not say how class marks of drones bought in other countries are treated beyond the EU rules.
