Notes
- The rules apply to a 'light electric vehicle' (kevyt sähköajoneuvo): at most 1 kW and 25 km/h, no seat (with exceptions). A device above 25 km/h or 1 kW is not a light electric vehicle and must be approved in another class, for example as a moped, with type-approval, insurance, registration and driving licence rules.
- Handing a light electric vehicle to a person under 15 is also prohibited (administrative fine of EUR 60). The age limit and the handover ban do not apply to a vehicle used solely by a person with reduced mobility.
- The Traficom page names a minimum age of 15 but does not state whether any licence is needed.
- The page says only that wearing a helmet adds safety. It does not say a helmet is required.
- Light electric vehicles weighing more than 25 kg must have traffic insurance. The page does not say what applies at 25 kg or less, and the rule is a weight condition, not a yes or no.
- The page names no plate or sticker requirement but does not state that none is needed.
- Riding is banned at a blood alcohol level of 0.5 per mille or more, or with narcotics in the blood. The page gives a fine of EUR 200 and says police may test riders. The rule applies to rented and own vehicles.
