In short: Drone owners register with Trafikstyrelsen (DKK 65) if the drone is over 250 g or has a camera or other sensor, and need liability insurance unless it is a toy drone. A1/A3 or A2 certificates apply by drone class, the maximum height is 120 m and pilots must be at least 15 for drones of 250 g or more unless supervised.

Notes

  • The registration fee is stated for 2026. Trafikstyrelsen says a drone operator registration has been valid for 3 years since 1 July 2025 and must be renewed before it expires. Reissuing a lost registration costs DKK 65 and does not extend it.
  • The theoretical A1/A3 certificate is taken as an online test (40 questions) after payment of a fee of DKK 130 (2026), which gives three attempts. The A2 certificate also requires practical self-training and a test with a recognised examiner.
  • Operators of drones that are not toy drones need a liability insurance covering damage to others. For drones over 250 g the stated minimum cover is 0.75 million SDR; for micro drones owned and flown by private individuals for personal or hobby use, the minimum sum no longer applies but valid liability cover is still required (change in force from 1 July 2025). Toy drones are excluded.
  • Denmark has proposed its own Remote ID requirement for all drones over 250 g, and for lighter drones with sensors in certain drone zones. The draft amendment to the drone order was in consultation until 21 August 2026 and is expected to take effect on 1 January 2027. It is not yet in force. Unmarked legacy drones are not covered by the EU rule above.
  • Under 15, a pilot may fly only a drone under 250 g, or a heavier drone under the supervision of a person aged 15 or over who holds a certificate matching the drone class.
  • The Trafikstyrelsen pages only say that a parent or guardian registers on behalf of a child under 15; a separate minimum age for the operator was not found.
