Registering residence for longer stays in Denmark (2026)
Last reviewed: 30 October 2026
In short: Denmark requires registration in the Central Person Register for moves lasting over 3 months, or over 6 months for Nordic, EU/EEA and Swiss nationals. The move must be notified to the municipality within 5 days of getting a home and, where needed, a residence permit or certificate. Departures abroad must be notified before leaving.

Notes
- Registration in the Central Person Register (CPR) is possible only if the stay will last over 3 months. The duty to notify arises for stays over 6 months for people from another Nordic country, EU/EEA or Swiss nationals and their family members covered by free movement; for other people it arises for stays over 3 months.
- The 5 days run from when the conditions for registration are met: the person has a home or fixed place of stay in Denmark and, for non-Nordic nationals, a residence permit or certificate (or confirmation of exemption).
