Drone laws in Hungary (2026)

Last reviewed: 30 October 2026

In short: Operators must register with the Hungarian aviation authority before the first flight, for a fee of HUF 2,000, and the drone is registered too. Pilots must complete online training and tests that depend on the drone type, and the authority tells operators to stay below 120 m. Other points were not confirmed.

RuleWhat applies
Operator registrationRecreational flying (open category)The operator must register with the aviation authority before the first operation (Regulation (EU) 2019/947). Under the Aviation Act, unmanned aircraft other than toy aircraft may use Hungarian airspace only if the operator and, where required, the device are registered. The authority also registers the device; the registration numbers go on the drone. [1]

Notes

  • The same fee of HUF 2,000 applies to registering the drone (UAS device) itself; the authority says the device must be registered as well. Fees for amendments, deletion and certificates differ.
  • The Hungarian aviation authority pages read for this package do not state this. The Aviation Act and Regulation (EU) 2019/947 were not read for it.
  • The authority leaflet says only that online pilot training and tests apply and that which ones depends on the type of drone.
  • Liability insurance is required if the drone's take-off mass is 250 g or more, or if it is used commercially. It must be in place when the operator registers. For non-commercial drones under 20 kg the cover follows Government Decree 39/2001 (III. 5.). The authority's page says insurance is not required for hobby drones under 250 g.
