Smoke alarms in Poland (2026)
Last reviewed: 30 October 2026
In short: Poland requires at least one autonomous smoke alarm in each dwelling under the fire protection regulation, applying from 1 January 2030 to dwellings already in use. Rooms and units that provide hotel services, such as short-term rentals, had to comply from 30 June 2026. Rooms where fuel is burned also need a carbon monoxide detector.

Notes
- Applies to every dwelling, rented or owner-occupied. It does not apply where the dwelling is covered by a fire alarm system or a fixed automatic extinguishing system (§ 28a ust. 2). The regulation entered into force 30 days after its publication on 22 November 2024; for dwellings already used as dwellings that day the requirement applies from 1 January 2030.
- The regulation says the devices must be installed, maintained and operated as described in the manufacturers' instructions (§ 3 ust. 3a) but does not say who, owner, landlord or occupier, must do it.
- The date applies to dwellings used as such on 22 December 2024. Dwellings that came into use later are not given a transition date in the regulation.
- Applies to residential rooms and units in which hotel services are provided, such as short-term rentals, and to rooms with fuel combustion in premises other than dwellings that are used as such.
