Notes

  • Most foods, including meat, eggs, milk, dairy and fish, for personal use and within the customs quota (tollkvoten) set by Tolletaten. Northern Ireland, Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Andorra and San Marino follow the EU/EEA rules. Products from areas with outbreaks of serious animal disease need documented origin, and some foods can be temporarily banned. The food must be carried or received as a parcel and not sold.
  • Meat, meat products, milk and dairy cannot be brought in luggage, or sent privately by post or courier, from outside the EU/EEA, including products acquired in other ways such as hunted meat. Exceptions apply to some products that contain these ingredients, such as bread, cakes, chocolate and sweets, if shelf-stable or fully heat-treated and within the value limit. Products count as coming from the non-EU country even if packaged in the EU/EEA.
  • Mattilsynet applies the non-EU/EEA rules to the United Kingdom, except Northern Ireland, which follows the EU/EEA rules.
  • Up to 2 kg in total of infant formula, baby food and special foods needed for medical reasons, for own use, if not requiring refrigeration before opening, ready-packed and brand-protected, in unbroken packaging, and not infant formula or baby food from China.
  • From outside the EU/EEA: up to 1 kg of animal foods other than meat, meat products, milk and dairy, for example honey, eggs, fish and seafood. Fish from the Faroe Islands has no restriction.
  • Mattilsynet lists Northern Ireland, Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Andorra and San Marino as following the EU/EEA rules. From the Faroe Islands and Greenland up to 5 kg of meat and dairy products may be brought; from Svalbard up to 5 kg of game meat.
