Notes
- A foreign-registered vehicle may drive in Hungary only if it carries the sign of its state of registration (KRESZ § 5(7)). Regulation 2411/98 requires Hungary to accept the EU-format plate for vehicles of other Member States.
- Article 3 of Regulation 2411/98: Member States that require a distinguishing sign must recognise the sign on the left of the registration plate as equivalent.
- EU-format plates with the country code on the blue strip count as the distinguishing sign for driving within the EU (Regulation 2411/98, Article 3). KRESZ § 5(6) requires a Hungarian-registered car leaving the country to carry the 'H' sign; a Hungarian rule on the plate replacing it was not read.
