Cannabis law in New Brunswick (2026)
Last reviewed: 9 October 2026
In short: New Brunswick sets the minimum age at 19 and a public possession limit of 30 g of dried cannabis (or equivalent). Adults may grow cannabis in their dwelling-house in a locked enclosure, and consumption is allowed in a private dwelling, on vacant land with consent, or in places set by regulation, but not in places the public can access. Cannabis NB stores and approved retailers are the only legal sellers. Stores sell up to 30 g per customer, and new drivers and all drivers under 21 must have zero drugs in their system.

Notes
- Section 16 allows persons aged 19 or over to cultivate only in their dwelling-house, with lawfully possessed seeds or plants, outdoors inside a locked enclosure at least 1.52 m high or indoors in a separate locked space. The provincial rules page gives four plants at the primary residence (the federal limit); the statute itself does not repeat the number.
- Consumption is allowed in a private dwelling with the owner's or occupant's consent, on vacant land with consent, or in places set by regulation; it is not allowed in places to which the public has access. The provincial page adds an occupied campsite. Cannabis may not be used in or on a vehicle on a highway, roadway or managed trail.
