Notes

  • Not established. The Act (s. 29.1) restricts the sale, giving, purchase and setting off of fireworks and allows public displays with permission, but the regulations listed under the Act contain no fireworks provision, and the Act's power to define low hazard fireworks and licence vendors (s. 30(1)(f.01)-(f.04)) was not found to have been used. See the sale-period note.
  • No provincial or territorial rule on consumer fireworks could be verified. The federal rules apply (aged 18 or over; see the Canada page) and municipal by-laws may set sale periods, use periods and banned places.
  • Fire Prevention Act ss. 29.1-29.5 (Internet Archive snapshot of the official page, 11 July 2026; the live site refuses automated access). Section 29.1: no person shall sell, keep for sale, give, buy or set off fireworks except as provided in the Act. The only exception in the Act is a public display with the written permission of the fire marshal or the local fire chief (s. 29.2), plus federally licensed holders selling out of province (s. 29.4). The Act defines fireworks as including fire-crackers, cannon-crackers, fireballs, mines, roman candles, skyrockets, squibs and torpedoes and any other explosives designated by the Lieutenant-Governor in Council. Whether consumer (type F.1) fireworks are covered or exempt in practice was not established.
