E-bikes and speed pedelecs in Oregon (2026)

Last reviewed: 9 October 2026

In short: Oregon treats an electric assisted bicycle (motor of up to 1,000 W that cannot drive it faster than 20 mph on level ground) as a bicycle rather than a motor vehicle; there is one category, not three classes. Riders under 16 must wear a helmet. Riding one on a sidewalk is an offence.
