Notes

  • The limit is per person at any one time. Possession above it is not covered by the statute and the penalty rules were not read.
  • Per person, at the person's residence, plus an unlimited number of seedlings. Further conditions in §1502(2) to (4) (for example security and visibility) were not read.
  • Adult-use stores are separate from medical dispensaries; medical and adult-use cannabis may not be dispensed from the same facility. Delivery to a private residence is also licensed.
  • Use is allowed only on private property, and owners may prohibit it on their premises. Use by a driver or passenger on a public way is prohibited. The statute (§1501(2)) also bars smoking in public places.
  • The medical programme (Maine Medical Use of Cannabis Program) is run by the Office of Cannabis Policy separately from the adult-use programme.
  • The Office of Cannabis Policy describes the licensed stores as serving residents and visitors aged 21 or over. The page does not describe any other rule for non-residents.
